Win a Wig!

Is it worth the time?

Do I really want to sit down and read a 500 page novel?

It’s a fair question, and one I would ask myself before investing in a longer work, and that’s why today I am going to talk about why I would invest the time to read Brother Bewitched.

First, because I wrote it!

Now, for everyone else that isn’t me, let me say that the TG explorations in this novel go deeper and are more gripping than any I have done.   First, we really get to know Prince Serren very well in his life as a swaggering young male who has always been entitled and taken that entitlement for granted.   Consequently, when he is transformed into a young woman and loses all his male privilege, every blow to his male ego drops like a hammer.

In other words, you will get to know Serren and his family, and therefore you will care more.  It’s the difference between seeing on the news that someone got in a car wreck, and watching a loved one get in a car wreck.

Wait.  Loved one?   But isn’t Serren a cad?

No.   In this case, as in some of my other works, Serren is not a bad person.  He is a product of his time and place.  He could be accused of lacking empathy, but again he was raised that way and has a father as a role model who is a womanizer.

We also get to know his sister, Pattenia, and we watch her transform from something of an obedient and dutiful daughter to a woman who takes what she wants– even when that ends up being her brother’s sex, name and crown.  She is not a bad person at all, nor some sort of castrating female, but a person with desires and dreams and flaws who does what she ultimately believes is right for the kingdom.

Without spoilers, let’s say that just about every scene in the first third of the novel– pre-transformation– was intended to enhance and resonate in the scenes post-transformation.   If you do decide to read, pay attention to all that the characters say and do and know that it will all echo through the book as Serren grapples with becoming a young woman, going from Crown Prince to just a little sister, and Pattenia struggles to rule as the Girl King.

The Kindle edition is a little over 300 pages.  The Paperback a little over 500.  Trust me.  it’s worth it.   And, remember, you can get the book at a discounted pre-sale price through August 18th!   But the paperback now and get the kindle for FREE!
